D ear friends, I hope this New Year finds you refreshed and energized after the various festivities and time with family and friends. January comes wide open with possibilities, and I for one am always glad for that jump-start to reaching new goals. As your community of healthcare providers, our goal is to continue to expand and improve access to the best possible care for all who need it. That includes those beyond our immediate region as well, thanks to Roper St. Francis teammates like Ali Swanson, an orthopedic physician assistant and our 2017 Humanitarian Award Winner. It was my immense privilege to honor Ali for her volunteer medical outreach in Nicaragua, and present her with a check that will support this mission through Partners 4 Global Health. Roper St. Francis remains committed to helping you be your healthiest in 2018 and beyond, and that means doubling down on prevention and wellness resources and strategies, starting with this issue of House Calls. I hope you'll read our in-depth feature on sleep, an often overlooked yet critical factor for improved well-being. And our doctors also offer exciting news on new treatments for atrial fibrillation, as well as tips on managing chronic pain—a relevant topic in light of opioid concerns (see our eye-opening infographic on that topic on page eight). We are pleased to present reader-friendly information to help boost your health, via House Calls as well as our RSF Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds (see icons below). But we also like to see you in person, because despite our high-tech advancements, the caring, personal interaction remains the foundation of good medicine, and it's always been our specialty. Wishing you a 2018 full of good health and good times with those you love. Sincerely, Lorraine Lutton (right) with Ali Swanson, winner of Roper St. Francis' 2017 Humanitarian Award.
