D ear friends, I hope you are taking time this summer to enjoy the outdoors and, most importantly, spend time with loved ones. It's easy to get so caught up in the hustle of everyday life, but summer is the perfect time to take a break. Slowing down helps lessen my stress and gives me a fresh outlook. This summer, I've been reflecting on key people who have inspired and motivated me, one of whom is Katherine Duffy, a member of the Roper St. Francis Healthcare Board of Directors for nearly two decades. Kathy has been a mentor to me since I arrived in Charleston, and she is a fearless and tireless advocate for the patients we serve and the teammates we employ. Her vast healthcare experience and legacy of helping others date back to 1965 when she became a registered nurse from the former St. Francis School of Nursing. Kathy has been an advisor to me and our full board, but perhaps most important is her service. She has been a fierce proponent of taking every step possible so our patients and teammates remain safe while in our care or in our facilities. Kathy demanded the best of Roper St. Francis Healthcare, and her commitment has helped us to earn national accolades for quality care. Kathy ends her time on our board this summer. I will miss her direction, advice and expertise. Speaking of advice, this Summer's edition of House Calls is packed with guidance on how to boost your mood and mental health with a healthy dose of the outdoors. And with all that time outside we delve in to the value of our skin and how we can protect it during the summer and beyond. I hope you'll tuck this issue of House Calls into your beach bag, and that you have a wonderful summer.
