D ear friends, Though they seem to come faster and faster, embracing a New Year never gets old. I welcome that symbolic fresh start, that calendar-driven recalibration and nudge to make some positive changes. Speaking of positive changes, Roper St. Francis Healthcare has exciting growth on the horizon as we head into 2019, especially for our neighbors in Berkeley County. In December, we officially opened our Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital Medical Office Building, and welcomed hundreds of you to our Community Day. We are proud to be the first health system to bring you expert specialty care—some of the Southeast's best surgeons, OB/GYN doctors, orthopaedists and urologists—to this rapidly growing community, with more specialists coming in the spring. And adjacent to the Medical Office building, construction continues to progress well on our new hospital. As we move into the New Year, we are pleased, as always, to bring you relevant, helpful health-related House Calls articles and ideas for healthful eating and exercise (dancing, anyone? See page 19). Our feature on how Roper St. Francis is leading the way nationally in best practices for pain relief—central to helping curb the opioid epidemic—is one I hope you will read and share. Plus you'll find the latest information on breastfeeding and our lactation services, as well as tips for improving self-control and discipline (hello New Year's resolutions!). We at Roper St. Francis are here and ready to help you make 2019 your healthiest yet. Thank you for the privilege of caring for you.
