D ear friends, There are plenty of things that people disagree about, but who doesn't want to enjoy a long, healthy life? I'm proud to work alongside dedicated professionals committed to a goal that everybody is on board with: helping our community be its healthiest. This issue of House Calls is one I hope you'll read, re-read, and share widely, because our feature outlines how to do just that. The story on the keys to longevity is a bounty of tips and data based on what modern medicine knows about living your best, fullest life. And summer, with its fresh produce and opportunities to be active, is a great time to revisit your personal healthy-living goals. Summer is also a season when folks are out and about, on boats or bikes or grilling in the backyard, and accidents can happen. Be sure to see our story on when to go to Express Care versus the ER, so you'll be prepared should illness or injury strike. And for those who have more serious injuries, including brain injuries, I'm delighted to announce that Roper St. Francis Healthcare is opening the Wendy C. H. Wellin and Keith S. Wellin Neuro Stroke Center at Roper Rehabilitation Hospital. This state-of-the-art facility is possible thanks to the generosity of Wendy Wellin, whose husband received life-changing treatment at Roper after suffering a stroke. This new center expands the range of state-of-the-art services that Roper Rehab Hospital is already known for. Whether you have a minor mishap or serious health issue, your community doctors and nurses are here for you at Roper St. Francis Healthcare. And we wish you a relaxing and invigorating summer, one that I hope is full of time with family and friends, doing activities that you enjoy. That's a key to longevity I'm happy to recommit to.
